A good preventive eye care plan is not complete without routine eye assessments. At Guilford Eye Center, we understand you may feel anxious about going to an eye clinic, let alone having your eyes examined. To help reduce your nervousness, your go-to eye care center will discuss things you can expect during one.
Detailed History Taking
If you’re a new patient, we advise printing and filling out our New Patient Form before coming in for your appointment. It would also be best if you arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of your appointment so we can input the information into our database. This way, you’ll have an uninterrupted and free-flowing consultation with our reliable optometrists.
We may ask you a couple of questions about your personal and family history. This may include any illnesses, medications, injuries, or even surgeries that may have affected your current eye health. This can serve as our guide to establishing the most appropriate approach when creating your eye care plan.
Performing Various Tests and Procedures
We may then ask you to undergo some tests to evaluate your eye health. We use the latest technologies in the opthalmic field to ensure a more accurate diagnosis. Our corneal topography equipment, for example, measures even the slightest changes in your cornea. This is especially helpful when determining your need to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses.
We also offer digital retinal imaging that allows us to take photographs of your retina so we can easily detect changes in your eyes. Our dilated eye exams, on the other hand, let us evaluate blood circulation in your eyes. They are effective in identifying eye diseases, like age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and more.
Explaining Your Results and Our Recommendations
Afterward, we’ll explain your test findings and our suggested management, so you’ll have a complete understanding of their significance to maintaining your visual health. If we find refractive errors, for instance, we’ll discuss how wearing prescription eyewear or undergoing LASIK eye surgery can help improve your visual acuity. Rest assured we’ll be ready to answer all questions you may have.
